River Trail

May 19, 2015 -      Every once in while its nice to discover something new. Something which takes you hours to explore. Curiosity,  what's behind the next bend, let see that break in the sky behind those trees, what is the view like from top of that hill, and where does the bend in the river lead?

Summer 1986 - Funny how life swings around. This trail we walked today, we are calling it the river trail, is on property where a huge farm house and barn existed.  I went into that house in 1986, with a guy I thought I liked. Now there is nothing, air, oxygen and nitrogen, mosquito's, space.
We were visiting friends, his not mine. I was the odd person out, since I went to college in another state, and my friend from this area, I became the one-who-couldn't-relate. I had nothing in common with these people.  It was late at night, after 9:00 PM,  late for me.  I just wanted to go home, but acted polite, and awkward.  I will say I  did want to look around the house like a dog, get a sense of history.

Today, nearly 25 years later, I got my chance, and with REAL friends! My true love, one of them, Willow Sunshine, along with Nancy with Oakley and little Rose.  Thanks for the great time.  Oh, we didn't get lost when the trail makers vanished. Instead we followed the river, turned around at the marsh.  Willow Sunshine ran loop de loops around us, coming obediently every time I called.  She chased, dug, swam, jumped, ran, and panted!  Little Rose was quite the trooper - bushwhacking, and Oakley in his senior years of 13, did a magnificent job keeping up.
We saw trees felled by beaver, pretty little flowers, lush green spring tree growth, and felt lots of mosquito's!  Destination River!

Here is the last part to the Baja 2015 series.  I collection of photographs and video taken during my visit in March.  Many photos of the same subject, but I couldn't decide. Mostly the slideshows are a place for me to archive my pictures.

Enjoy.

Punta Lobo: Then and Now

Punta Lobo - Then and Now

When I journey to Baja, Mexico Punta Lobo is one place I visit. The activity is captivating. Fisherman, pelicans, seabirds, desert, and ocean all transcend into to an orchestra of sight, sound, and smell.  I walk away with a vision of continuity, a sense of how truly beautiful this planet is, and dinner (fresh caught fish from the days catch).
This year I left with a heavy heart, saddened by the recent development of impending condos. I took my photos for Por el Planeta photo contest, Ma purchased dinner, and we went home to Los Cerritos to enjoy dinner with my Aunt.
When news of the contest arrived vie email I though how serendipitous, I happen to be going to Mexico (a special category for photos taken in Mexico). Also, the contest closing dead line happened to be one week after I returned!  I was excited to enter, and have a chance to win big. Naturally, dismayed when I realized I didn't win.
Weeks pass, Ma sends an article regarding Punta Lobo, and the communities reaction.  It's a hot topic, and rightly so.  I was pleased, and hopeful this opposition might derail what is happening.  More time passes, Ma sends a link for Truth Santos on facebook.  This is when I realize perhaps the REAL reason for my journey was not conservation photography for a photo contest, but to contribute to a greater cause, and help spread the word.
I am grateful to Por el Planeta for encouraging me to follow my talent, and make me courageous to enter a world wide contest on conservation photography. Second, opening a door to a new realm on an important topic.
Apparently the universe had a different plan. I only hope I have created something it had intended.  Please leave the desert alone.
